Topic: Bichons - Pres continued

I have just discovered the Internet today and immediately got the best site -Bichons! (That's why I didn't finish my first message.)

I agree with everyone's messages about their Bichons. I cannot imagine any other breed being as loving, adaptible, gorgoeus, funny etc. etc.

Our two Bichons, twins Bronson and Bianca (Bronny and Bee) go everwhere with us. They fly around Australia on business with us, they go to work, ride on our Harley, go Sailing for weeks at a time, go shopping, and stay in places that dogs are not allowed. They are so popular that we manage to get "NO DOGS RULES" overlooked in their case. Bronny and Bee also go to the Townsville General Hospital as Pets as Therapy.

Bronny and Bee got to meet the President and Mrs Clinton at Port Douglas while we were all running on the Beach. They had just had an atrocious haircut from a terrible grooming parlour in Cairns. They were actually shaved (except fot their ears and tails) and looked like gremlins. The Clintons had a good laugh about their bad haircut.

Would love to hear from anyone who saw the Port Douglas photo of Clintons and us and Bronson anywhere other than Australia. Please leave a message at this site.

Love to all Bichons and congratulations to all their owners on owning such a treasure.

Topic: Could You?

We have 2 wonderful Bichons, Kelsey & Seamus, males,4&2 yrs old. As usual we are very attached to them. At present we live in Santa Cruz, Calif. but may move to the UK. The really BIG hang up is the 6 month quarantine. Can you ever imagine doing that to a Bichon? (Especially when they have been vacinated since puppyhood.) Can anyone point me in the right direction in the UK to protest.ie Bichon breeders ?

Topic: Two Stupid Dogs

We have two Bichons, Barney and Sparkle. They almost have a full brain between the two of them. But they are cute and lovable. Is everyone else's Bichon as dumb as ours? Barney likes to grab Sparkle's leash when we are on a walk, and drag her along beside him. She hates this, and gets her revenge later, when he wants to sleep. She sneaks up behind him and grabs his face.

I am a classroom teacher in St. Louis and many of my students and I have bichons. We constantly exchange stories about Sarge, Mizzou and J.P. in class. Sarge is 20 pounds. Does anyone else have a perfect bundle of love as big as him? Anyway, we all wanted to say that bichons in St. Louis are the best kept secret of perfection. We love them.

Topic: My Pride and Joy

My Bichon turned 4 years old this past Halloween. Holly is definitely my pride and joy. I have no children so I always call her my daughter. I think she received more Christmas presents this year than some children! I love her dearly. About a year I was going through a rough time emotionally, and she was always there to lick my face and help dry my tears. Whenever I am ill, she stays right by my side. She has the best disposition of any dog I have ever seen. Holly also loves to ride in the car. As soon as I grab my keys, she is right at the door. My boyfriend and I are looking to get another Bichon sometime this spring or summer.

His real name is Billy, but if we'd known, we'd have named him Mr. Happy. He wakes us up with a big grin on his face and we're not allowed to sleep in because Mr. Happy is ready to start his day. We especially like him when he turns into Mr. Cuddles.

To Janet in Bellevue,WA -- In regard to your "Two Stupid Dogs" -- I am fairly new to the Bichon world, but yours is the first comment I have read that indicates Bichons aren't the smartest breed in the world. I have an eight-week-old puppy and I KNOW she is the smartest puppy in the world. (Purely objective opinion, of course) Your dogs sound cute, and I bet they are just as smart as they can be, too!

Topic: Mr. Bojangles-Bichon Joy

We had never heard of Bichons until we read our paper's classified ads. We were curious at the "non-shedding" portion of the ad and decided to check it out. End result: We came home in November 1995 with 3 month old "Mr. Bojangles." He has been a joy in our lives every day since. I've never known a happier, cuter, sweeter, or smarter dog! His best friend (besides us, of course) is "his" cat, Teddy. They play together (sounds like a stampede of elephants) and then they nap together, and sometimes even bathe each other.

Topic: Bichon, I must have one!

A few years ago my family took care of a friend's Bichon for a year while they went sailing (Freckles would get seasick). At first I wanted nothing to do with him (I had always preferred big dogs). It didn't take him long to win me over and I was absolutely heat-broken when we had to give him back. He had become my shadow in that year. He followed me everywhere. Now I want one of my own. I am thinking about getting a one in a couple of years, when we buy a house (if I can talk my boyfriend into it). I would like to start looking around now for a reputable breeder in my area (Ottawa, Ont, Canada). I would feel much better about getting a dog from someone whom I have been able to research and vist with. Can anybody tell me if there are any breeders in the Ottawa Valley area? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Topic: Gathering info

I'm currently in the process of trying to decide on the best pet for my 6 year old daughter. She is in love with toy poodles, but I am intrigued with Bichons! Your website is very informative, the crate training article was very helpful, although my computer crashed the first 3 times I tried to link to that page.Do you have any idea where I can find a reputable Bichon breeder in the Middle Tennessee area? Also, do you think a full grown Bichon would bond with a 6 year old? I'm a bit concerned about going through the potty training stage, since I'm not always able to be home during the day. Thanks for all the info!

Topic: Housebreaking

My Bichon, Fluffy, is one of the best things that ever happened to me. She is fifteen months old and a constant source of joy in my life. Recently, she went to Florida with me on vacation. We both enjoyed ourselves. Fluffy likes to play with the neighbor's cat, Oliver.

Although Fluffy took longer than I expected to housebreak, she now does what she is supposed to do outside. She was cage trained and this seemed to work well. The only time that she has "accidents" in the house is when I leave the apartment to go to the laundry room or to take the garbage out. During these periods, I have to put Fluffy in her cage or she will poop on the floor. When she is in her cage, she will bark, but she will not poop.
