Topic: Sweetest dogs

I have two bichons now: a male, Murphy and a new female pup named Annie. They are the best in the world for love and affection. I have had two others before these also. I couldn't ask for nicer dogs. Yes, they are a little hard to housebreak but I live with it. To whomever has the hot spot problem: Had the same with one of mine. Best thing I found was the common cortisone cream found in your local drugstore. Put on as quickly as possible and massage in. Repeat several times a day. It takes out the itch and helps heal.

Topic: Strangers

We all absolutely adore our little bichon but we do have one problem. Whenever the doorbell rings she is completley uncontrollable. She barks constantly to anyone who comes in and jumps on them. She even snaps at people she does'nt know. Does anyone else have this problem? What could we do to correct this?

Topic: SWEETS

SWEETS IS MY TEN YR OLD BICHON FRISE. SHE IS NEVER VERY FAR FROM ME. WHERE EVER YOU SEE ME, SWEETS IS EITHER RIGHT NEXT TO ME OR STARING AT ME WITH THOSE JET BLACK EYES. SHE IS SO FULL OF LOVE AND DEVOTION. WE ALSO HAVE A TEN YR OLD LHASA APSO NAMED JACKIE. THE TWO OF THEM ARE INSEPERABLE. THEY ARE BOTH FEMALES. THE ONLY PROBLEM WE HAVE WITH SWEETS IS THAT SHE IS REALLY AFRAID OR INSECURE AROUND STRANGERS. YOU MUST MAKE FRIENDS WITH HER FIRST AND YOU HAVE TO APPROACH HER VERY SLOWLY OR ELSE YOU RUN THE RISK OF HER SNAPPING AT YOU. HOWEVER, ONCE SHE LETS YOU PET HER SHE IS THEN ABSOLUTELY LOVABLE.

Topic: GREAT BIG BICHON BOY

My beautiful big bichon boy Snow is almost 3 years old, weighs 13.2kg (29lbs) and is of stretch limo design (twice as long as our petite Petal, 5kg 3yr old girl bichon). They have wonderful pedigrees and a common ancester. Snow is descended from Swedish bichons, does anyone know if they are larger than usual?? He looks like a polar bear when he stretches out and adores his polar bear toys - Little Polar and Big Polar and knows his toys by name.

Is Snow the biggest bichon in the world?????????

They both absolutely love cats and adore their 12 year old cat brother Timmy. Riding in the car is a favourite pastime, sleeping on their backs or playing chase rate highly, along with cats and people.

Does anyone else have an extra large bichon??

Topic: Great Big Bichon Boy

I Adopted a Bichon named Beau from the Wisconsin Humane Society four years ago. He weighs 23lbs! I have read they can weigh anywhere from five to twenty-five pounds. He does not have any papers, but he is the most lovable pet I have ever owned. He too looks like a polar bear. His favorite toy is his rubber ball. He is also quite a jumper. He managed to jump out of his Fido Shock fence after raising it two feet. He didn't even need a running start. I would love to have another one, but I fear he may be jealous of any other dog. Maybe he would accept another female Bichon. Hope you enjoy your big boy as much as I enjoy mine!

Topic: KONA THE HAWAIIAN BICHON

Aloha! We live in Hawaii and love our Bichon, Kona! Because the weather is so hot here we keep Kona clipped short. His brother, Guinness, is a Silky Terrier. They love to bounce off furniture and wrestle with each other. My husband and I spend a lot of time just watching them play. Thanks for the great articles and pictures!

Topic: male bichon - dusty

I love my bichon. He is 10 months old. He is very friendly and loves everyone. Dusty also like to jump on every one as they come in the door. Does any one have a solution to the biting and licking problem? He bites at himself until he is raw. I read the suggestion about cortizone cream I will give that a try. This is my first time at this site - it's great!

Topic: Teddy - Another Big Boy

Our 9 month old Teddy, is already 21 lbs of love and fluff. He is very smart, and does lots of tricks: sit, stay, speak, lie, beg, dance, & shake. He is also very reliably house trained. He is very even tempered and sweet. I expect he will grow some more to who know how large? He is now the baby of our family, and I am definately the MOMMY! He is wonderful and gentle with our children. When we bought him from his breeder, she told me that Bichon's are prone to food allergies, and to only feed him lamb and rice formula food. I have so far stayed with the puppy food because the kibble size is good for his jaws. She encouraged me to never change the type of food I give him, because it will probably prevent the development of food allergies, and help him from not being itchy. I also bathe him in hypoallergienic shampoo for white dogs, something I also obtained from her. We love him alot and hope someday to get another to keep him company.

We are considering purchasing a Bichon of our own, we have heard that they are a good breed to get if a child has allergies? Is this true? I want to find a local reputable breeder, any suggestions?

Topic: DAISY MAY

Daisy was born 7-29-96. At 7 weeks she had a 600 mile trip from Mich to Tenn. She is the easiest dog we have ever trained. She is smart and affectionate. We have never had a problem with her in the house, but she likes to smell and dig the ground if we let her. She also loves to chew paper if she finds some. How do you stop them from tearing up paper? She loves to ride in the car and goes every where with us. We want to breed her when she is ready the second time. Where can we find a good stud in Smithville, Tn. area? DAISY tips the scale at about a whopping 10 pounds.

Topic: Sweet Little Mickey

Mickey is a little female with the best personality of any dog I have every owned. We have two daughters aged 14 and 9 and Mickey has assumed the position as our third daughter. Her bad habits are few and restricted to occasionally stealing loosely secured food items. Mickey is very bright and has mastered a variety of tricks in her three years. She sneezes on cue, talks only when talked to in a New York accent saying " Tawk Mickey" not 'Talk'. A bad trick is the ability to open zippers of bags which contain candy. Once she openned a zipped carryon back which I had packed for a long trip and she openned it and took out a pound of twislers. She ate her fill and survived. We love her and have become friends with many other Bichon owners. Great little dog.

Topic: Sammi Starr

"Sammi" is our seven year old Bichon. Four years ago we found her through a rescue organization. We thought we were rescuing her, but she has rescued our family with her gentle loving spirit and her playful puppy style. Now she is like one of our children and we love her just as much. Bichons are great for people with alergies. I know first hand. I also had a Bichon growing up for 18 years, "Fluffy" I am covinced these dogs were God's special order. That are like angels in custumes. Thanks for the oppurtunity to share this.

Topic: Black-Eyed Duchess Sasha

My precious little Sasha had her 3rd birthday on the 21st of January. We celebrated quietly because it was really cold out that day. These are far and away the best dogs! Sasha loves her cat Sophie and the 2 of them play together all the time. It's actually more fun to watch them than to watch TV.

I've seen comments regarding Bichons biting and snapping at people. Sasha would never do that. She just licks them to death. She has gotten better and better as she gets older as far as her excitability goes. She used to be just wild whenever we had company and would stay that way for the longest. Now when someone visits, she's only wild for about 2 - 3 minutes, then settles down and acts normal.

The housetraining has gotten much better also. I no longer restrict her access in the house to just her room and the kitchen. She now has full run of the house and no longer chews up everything she can get her mouth on and in general is acting more civilized.

These dogs are so wonderful. Those little black eyes can almost talk on their own! Sasha has a wide range of expressions. I have pictues of her where people say she appears to be smiling (and she probably is).

I'll visit again soon. Thanks for having such a wonderful site. I've saved this and all the other Bichon sites to my Favorites file so that I can get to them faster!
