My husband and I are interested in getting another female bichon. Does anyone know of a reputable breeder in Pennsylvania (preferably the Lehigh Valley/Pocono area).

Topic: straight haired bichons

We have a 6 month old bichon, Ms. Maggie, which has straight hair. Does anyone know of others or whether she is just a genetic freak? We love her but since she has papers we would like for her to look a little more like a bichon. We can hardly call her a FRISE with the shaggy dog look.

Topic: Need Help!

We recently bought what we thought was a Bichon puppy, but may not be. In all the pictures I see of Bichon puppies their fluffy coat extends down to the ends of the paws...Our puppy, 3 months old has fluffy fur only half way down her leg...the rest is very short hair...looks kinda funny...can anyone give me an opinion..is this a bichon or perhaps a mixed breed (we paid top dollar for this dog). Thank you. (if this is not the correct site to ask such a question could I be directed elsewhere? Julie G.

I love your site. It's nice to know that being a Bichon lover is a shared experience. My little guy Murphy has a weird flaw - a little pink nose. Anyone else?

HOW DOES EVERY BICHON OWNER KEEP UP WITH THESE THICK COATS. IF WE MISS A FEW DAYS OF BRUSHING THEIR COATS QUICKLY TURN INTO THICK MATS, AND THEN WE HAVE TO SHAVE THEM. ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

Topic: ONE BICHON OR TWO?

I am the proud owner of a 14 month old Bichon, Coco. Coco is an energetic little scamp who loves people and other dog. I've been considering getting a brother or sister for Coco. Will he be happier with a friend to play with? (My husband is happy with Coco sans sibling!) Would appreciate hearing from someone who knows! Thanks so much! Stephanie

Topic: House training

We have a 14 month old Bichon named Comet who we just adore!! We work during the day but have someone walk her mid-afternoon. Usually on Mondays we notice that she does a pish or a poop on the run - we think it's because she's mad at us for leaving her alone! I guess we didn't do the best job in the training dept., but she HATED the crate - she'd poop in there and then fling the poop around and get it all over her, the crate, and the floor - kind of defeated the purpose! We agree with many of the comments about bichons - sweet, adorable, loves to cuddle, etc. We love when she runs from room to room at 50mph! She also likes to hang out on top of the couch pillows, or on our dining room table!!!

Topic: Another New Bichon Owner

Two weeks ago I was adopted by Gracie, a 9-wk old bichon. She rules. What a happy little creature. She loves my 21 year old son but doesn't care much for a friend of his. Her personality is totally different when this person is in her space. She's never been vicious but she is not bashful about the fact she doesn't like him. Are bichons territorial? She seems to get along fine with other admirers who have stopped to meet her. Thanks for the help and I hope to chat with other bichon owned people.

Topic: Reputable breeder/where?

I have admired the Bichon for sometime. I have always beenan owner of poodles, from teacup to standard. Would I be happy with a bichon? I presently have two standard poodles, both getting on in years. I need to know the location of a reputable breeder in California. While I am located in Northern California I have a daughter in Southern California so either end of the state for a good breeder is fine. I do not plan to be able to attend a Kennel Club Show anytime soon.

I'm interested in purchasing a show quality Bichon. We have two great danes currently, and have had danes for over 35 years. The Bichon is the first breed that has attracted me since our love of Danes began. We live in Natchez, Ms., and could travel to New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Jackson, with no difficulty . My E mail address is Caesar@1america.net. Thank you for your reply. Joan

Topic: Loveable But Crazy

Our 18 month old Bichon, Lacey Jane, is adorable and basically house trained, but we still can't trust her with the run of the house. She occassionally will pee or poop if she is not under our watchful eye. She loves to chew paper: paper towels, toilet paper and tissues from the garbage. While she is 99% housebroken, how can we get her to 100%???

Topic: One owner's answers

I have the most fun coming back to this site regularly to read charming stories about other people's Bichons. We have a Bichon, 4 years old, named Spencer, he is the joy of our lives, we love him and his little funny ways so much! To Pete in Coral Springs, Florida, I would suggest cutting your bichon's hair a little shorter than you may have it now, if you are unable to brush him daily or at least a couple of times a week. We have Spencer's hair shorter than a show dog, But he is still really curly and precious looking, and he never gets mistaken for any other breed of dog. He has never become matted, and the extent of his brushing is AT LEAST once a week, but I often comb him while he is sitting on my lap at night, and he loves that! To Kendra in Bellebille, Ontario, Canada, I just wanted to let you know your dog is not the only one with a strange fixation on an object, Spencer has a "baby" that is/was a stuffed animal polar bear that is so beat up I finally had to take the stuffing out of it and now it is easier to wash, because he is so attached to it, we could never get rid of it. To Ruth in Marion, Ia, I wanted to let you know that our dog sometimes is not entirely comfortable with a couple of my son's friends, but he never bites them. He growls and moves away from them, and they are old enough to recognize that he is not fooling around with them. Spencer is the sweetest little dog with the family, and with most of the people we know. He will sit on my lap and stare at the kids as if to tell them "this is MY mommy!" To Yvonne in California, I wanted to say that we got Spencer four years ago from a breeder in Eureka, we got his name by looking in the classifieds of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Good luck! What a great site, thanks to everyone for the great stories! I especially laughed at the twizzler eating Bichon! Sounds a lot like our Spencer, the food snatcher!
