I'm typing this message with one hand because my 11 month old baby Bichon is lying on my other arm sleeping. I love reading the messages from all the Bichon owners out there. Our little Ivan is spoiled rotten after being with us a mere 4 weeks. He loves any kind of attention from anybody he meets! My husband and I take him to the pet store but almost everybody in the store stops and gushes over him and we end up being at PetSmart for an hour instead of 5 minutes. Even the other dogs take to him and want to give him kisses since he's so little and cute. Ivan's favorite pastimes include napping on our laps (he has to rest his head on your arm or if we let him in bed with us he has to have his head propped on the pillow). He also likes to steal my underwear and run through the house with it, as if to say, ha ha, try and catch me! Like other Bichons, he sometimes runs races with his self around the house as fast as he can, his little white ears flying in the wind! He loves it when my husband and I blow on his face and he tries to "lick" the air - it's like we are "blowing kisses" to each other! As you can tell, we just love our Ivan, although he can be ornery! One last thing, we ended up getting Ivan because I have TERRIBLE allergies to dogs and cats and a friend recommended these "hypo-allergenic" dogs. So, if anyone else has dog allergies, I can vouch for the fact that they are truly hypo-allergenic - I haven't sneezed or sniffled yet and I have given and received lots of hugs and kisses from Ivan in the past few weeks!

Topic: Looking for male puppy

Allergies have forced me to place two of my four Irish Setters and I really would love to have a Bichon. All dogs are a part of the family in this house and there is plenty of room for an addition. Show quality is what I am looking for but the family life is what will come first.(always) Thank-you for your attention.

I am very excited about finding this site. How wonderful to have a place to discuss my favorite topic which is Mickey B, my bichon. Mickey is only two years old. I bought him in a pet store after losing both my dogs to old age within a month of each other. I love Mickey to pieces, but sadly to say he is going blind. This breaks my heart. He has cataracs (did i spell that right?) in both eyes. I am currently having to put three types of medication in his left eye 3 times a day in order to get him ready for surgery. The surgery is going to cost me around 1000 dollars and there is no guarantee that it will be successful! The thought of this operation terrifies me because of the pain poor Mickey is going to have to endure. I guess my point here is that if you want one of these wonderful little dogs please be sure to buy them from a reputable breeder!!! I hope my experience will help some other pet owner from making the same mistake I did. (Not that I dont have the most wonderful dog in the world. I love Mickey to death and would not trade him for anything!)

I have 3 dogs right now, a 13 year old Lhasa Apsos (f), a 1 year old black lab (f) and a 1 year old Bichon (m). I love them all dearly, but the little guy has to be the sweetest thing I've ever seen. Even though most people think 3 dogs is enough, if I could I don't know how many Bichons would be enough for me. Maybe I was lucky, but I had no difficulty in training him, but I found that when I act angry with him he just becomes rebellious, but if I act disappointed in him he can hardly stand it. And that's what I did. He is the most incredible thing, we are truly in love, we bonded immediately. He likes the whole family, but it's me he bonded with most. I smile just thinking about him. I'm glad to hear that other people have been taken in too! I think your web site is excellent. I've got the Bichon bug ... so anything that relates to them gets a 10/10 from me.

Topic: Rocky,our 6yr old bichon

Our daughter had terrible allergies while growing up. She desperately wanted a pet. Just by chance one day while visiting our local pet store, we happened upon this 6wk. old sweet curly, cuddly, black-eyed little baby bichon. Of course the whole family had to see and hold him. The owner took him from the cage and let us pet him and also let him run around on the floor. It was instant love at first sight. That was 6 years ago. Both my kids are now in college, and the first thing they do when they come home is yell for Rocky. This dog has got to be the most loyal, cuddly, even-tempered, mischievious, sweet little thing in the universe. He is my buddy. I recently had major surgery, while in the hospital, my husband said he kept looking out the window for me. The day I came home, he sat on my lap on the recliner, and would not leave my side. My Dad died suddenly two years ago; I was very emotionally upset, crying, etc. That animal did not leave my side, every time I started to cry, he was right there, licking my hand and nuzzling my face. I guess what I'm trying to say is that our bichon is so much a part of our family that we could not possibly live without him in our daily lives. If anyone is considering getting a pet, a bichon should be your one and only choice. Diane

Topic: Rude breeders/exhibitors

Hi Bichon Friends, I love this sight. Nice to see so many happy people. As a breeder/exhibitoe I have gotten so many complaints about some other breeders/exhibitors.. Every one is trying to do their home work in going to dog shows and checking with breeders to get a happy, healthy puppy. What they are finding OFTEN is that these people just dont have the time of day for them. If they dont want to do the show deal and want a wonderful companion some wont even talk to them..Believe me, we are not all like tha. Keep searching, and dont give in to purchasing from a pet shop because you cant find one. Be patientThere are still nice people who have quality Bichons.

Topic: Our little Rag Muffin

Hello fellow Bichon lovers! My family has a small female Bichon who is about 1 1/2 years old. My dad gave it to my mom on the Christmas of 1994, and it was love at first sight. Although she loved playing Godzilla with the decorations around the house, she was adorable. What surprised my mom most, is how quietly she stayed in the back room. There wasn't a whimper. That was when she was 6 weeks old. Boy do they grow up fast! They definatly become a part of the family. She is so spoiled that she won't eat dog food unless you act like you are eating it! Ahh, but she won't eat a thing unless she first smells it to death and poinks it with her noise. Do your bichons do that? Or is mine an original. Actully Muffin, thats her name, poinks everything. And I am glad she wasn't raised to be a guard dog, because the worst she could do is either lick or poink someone to death! She gets along with all of our animals. We have a prairie dog, his name is Nibbles; a hamster; her name is Cinnamon; and an African Grey Congo, her name is Cocoa. With Nibbles, she likes to take care of him as if he was her little puppy. Muffin couldn't be more gentle with Cinnamon. When Cinnamon gets loose, we just ask Muffin, "Muffy, where's Cinnamon?" and Muffin will go crazy running around the house looking and sniffing for her. When she finds her, Muffin will either quietly lay down and wait for Cinnamon to come out of her hiding place (Like if She's behind a dresser or somehting like that) Or, if Muffin can get to her, she'll very gently pick Cinnamon up in her mouth, and bring it to one of us. Usually the person who had Muffin Find Cinnamon. With Cocoa, Muffin just sits there looking at Cocoa. Unfortantly, Cocoa doesn't like dogs. In fact, she only loves my dad to death, and tolerates my mom, because mom is the one who feeds her. But when my dad holds Cocoa, he well hold her head so Muffin can give her a little kiss. Cocoa loves teasing Muffin. She'll call her name, Muffin will come running, and Cocoa will act like it was someone else who called her. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Topic: I Need a Bichon to Love!

Has anyone seen the "Bichon Frises 1997 Calendar" copyrighted by Browntrout Publishers?? The little dog on the February & October page is "Bunny". The December page has 2 dogs;"Bunny" & "Wendyl P. Fuzz" .... these were the 2 little loves in my life for many years in Florida. I live in PA now & it's time for me to be "owned by a Bichon" again. As ANYONE who has ever loved a Bichon... you know ...nothing can take their place. Can anyone help? I need information re. reputable breeders in the Philadelphia area.

Topic: Love That Bichon

I did not grow up with a dog and neither did my husband but our daughters, 7 and 10 were begging for a dog. My older daughter has allergies so if we were going to get a dog, it had to be one that was non-shedding. We have had Chloe since she was 9 weeks old and she just turned one.

For someone who never really cared for dogs, I'm crazy about this one. She is so lively and smart and we all have so much fun with her. In the mornings when it is time for the kids to get up, I say "Chloe, go wake up the girls!" She runs up the steps, pushes the door open with her nose and jumps up on their beds, licking their faces. What a great way to wake up in the morning.

Now I know why there are so many Bichon lovers out there. They are the perfect dog.

Topic: Pet Therapy

Does anyone have a Bichon that does pet therapy? I think I would like to do this with my Ivan once he's older (he's only 12 weeks now) but would love to hear from anybody who has a therapy dog. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. You can e-mail me privately with any comments. Thanks!

I just discovered this site and I was happy to read all the favorable comments regarding the Bichon Frise. I would appreciate the names of reputable breeders in the Seattle area which is about 100 miles from where I live. If anyone could help me find a wonderful little puppy, I would appreciate hearing from you.
