Topic: GREAT BOOK ON BICHONS!!

For anyone interested in a great book about Bichons, I bought "The Bichon Frise, An Owners Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet" by Mary and Kathie Vogel. Other books that I bought dealt with mostly the Bichon history, etc., and showing, but this book is great because it really tells about the personality of the Bichon. My Bichon, Sasha, is 15 months old, and many of her traits are mentioned in the book. I'm sorry that I didn't know about this book earlier, but it is never too late to learn, I guess!! I'm also writing because I have a question for other Bichon owners. We are thinking about getting another Bichon as company for Sasha. Has anyone had any problems with jealousy? Sasha is pretty spoiled, and after 15 months of being an "only child" I was wondering if there might be a problem bringing a new puppy into our home. Has anyone experienced any problems?? If you could either write in to "Guestbook" or E-Mail me at whk@worldnet.att.net I'd appreciate it. Thanks again for a great Bichon resource!

Topic: bichon

I bought my bichon, cody, five years ago. He has without a doubt become the joy of my life. I really consider myself lucky to be part of this little dogs life. He is always happy, friendly, and my constant compaion. I would without hesitation, recommend this breed to anyone who wants a loyal, loveable dog, who will give you more happiness than you will ever expect.

Topic: Cassy

We have had our Bichon, Cassy, for 2 years and we would like to let her coat grow long as we don't show her. But every time we try to let it grow, it just gets into knots and gets matted. I have read a few people's letters saying that they let their Bichon's wool grow and I would like some help. Any suggestions?

Topic: A Large bichon

Our pet Bichon, Sparky, is a little over 4 years old. We've had him since he was 12 weeks old. Everyone, including our vet, has commented on how large he is for a Bichon. Sparky is about 16" at the shoulders and weighs 24 lbs. He is quite healthy and energetic. Are Bichons this size very unusual? Despite his size, Sparky exhibits all the other traits of the breed, he is extremely lively and playful, loves to be the center of attention and is clearly the friendliest dog I've ever owned. Also, he was relatively easy to house train (we used the crate method). We would recommend this breed to anyone who is looking for a friendly, loving family pet. He does occasionally get skin irritations ("hot spots"), particulary in the summer (he seems sensitive to insect bites). Using a topical treatment (such as bacitracin or nerosporin) helps alot. He is great around kids and loves to sit or lie close to family members (or anyone else who will rub his belly!). My wife is so happy with him (he is her first dog ever) she would like to get another. Do you have any advice about adding another Bichon to a household where one has already been esrtablished? Would you recommend a female or another male?

Topic: puppy training

Hi ! My name is Lucky. I am 8 weeks old. My parents are first time Bichon owners. They have questions on training when I'm younger than 14 weeks. All the books they read refer to training after that age. I am beginning to nip and bite hard on their hands. I think they are playing but they are just trying to keep me from getting a bad habit. Any help out there? Also how early can they crate train me? I still do not make it through the night with out soiling. Please help my Mom & Dad. Thanks, Lucky (My Mom & Dad's names are Gary & Mary Ann)

We have just been adopted by our first Bichon. He is named Cooper. I have been trying to avoid the crate but can see that it will be the only way to completely housebreak him. We are thinking of training classes since he is an overly happy pest when company arrives and any other time he is feeling frisky. It is hard to train him because he is so adorable and happy. Any suggestions on housebreaking other than the crate and any suggestions on the best age for training classes? Cooper is 4 months old. Connie : artmil@ct2.nai.net

I have a 5 month old female puppy named Annie. She's adorable and I love her a lot but she still doesn't seem to be able to make it all night without soiling her crate! I know this is unusual and I have tried everything that local dog trainers have suggested. To no avail. She's pretty good in the house but still won't indicate that she has to go out. Any ideas for the crate problem? Please e- mail me at n.tenbroeck@gomail.sjcpl.lib.in.us if you would. thanks a lot.

Topic: very cute!

Hi. I have been researching Bichon Frise in the hopes of getting one of my own. I am allergic to most dogs and cats and have recently heard that the Bichon are allergy free. Could this be true? Such an adorable little puff-ball allergy free?? If there are any fellow sufferers who own a Bichon and could advise me, I would very much appreciate it!!

These are the most adorable little creatures, and from all accounts, the friendliest things, and if I can be allergy free...WELL! I would love to have one!

Topic: 3 RD DAUGHTER

We have had Katie for 6 years now. Our daughters 9 and 4 have filled her hair with hairbows....while she lay there and enjoyes the attention. If anyone is interested in the perfect dog for your family.......A Bichon is the right choice. I have had 7 dogs in my life....and I can honestly say that our Katie is the most loyal, smart, quietest, sweet, neat, and most of all lovable of them all. She is what I always imagined a LAP dog to be. She lives for me to sit down in my recliner, as too lay down on my lap. Don't worry, as you owners know, No shedding!! Just a good fluffing and off we go.

Topic: Would Like to Adopt 1

I have research this type of dog and feel it would be the best choice for a house pet. I live in the Washington, DC Metro Area and was wandering if anyone had one up for adoption. I don't know the cost of this animal. That information would be helpful too. You may email me at tbat@loc.gov with this information. I loved viewing the website and reading the history of this animal.
