Topic: "Tails-Up" for Bichons

What a terrific site. I have been to visit several times. Thanks for putting so much time into its creation. I grew up with a beautiful little Bichon named Candy -- she was definitely the "big" sister and constantly bossed me around! She died at 16 yrs of age right after I married and moved away from home. Now my husband and I have a wonderful Bichon "son" named Harley. He is 5 years old and has quite a collection of stuffed toys which were are usually tripping over in every room of the house! One of the most endearing traits of the bichon is that they NEVER grow up -- they are always puppies.

Harley's "Tails-Up" List: going for rides, taking naps with mom and dad, barking at the Great Dane next door, vanilla wafers, belly-scratches, pillows, licking mom and dad's feet, camping, ice cubes, playing ball, following mom from room-to-room, "Good Boy Treats" (which now has to be spelled "G-B-T" when discussing when and who gave him one last!)

Harley's "Tails-Down" List: baths-brushes-combs and Kim Lobdell his wonderful groomer, Dr. Bostrom his kind and gentle vet (even thought Harley doesn't love them -- WE love them dearly), any mention of the word "No-No", leaving without him

GALIPO

I have a bichon frise called Galipo. He's 6 years old now. I got him as a present. He was a surprise. A very nice one! Galipo has papers where you can read all about his ancestors and family tree. We take Galipo with us on our regular trips to California during the summer holidays. He doesn't mind travelling on the plane and he loves it in California. He enjoys running in the yard and getting filthy. Sometimes he falls in the swimming pool. He doesn't like water very much. Our neighbours have two American Eskimos. Galipo has fun playing with them. Every summer, the vacation is fun for us AND for him. We take the three white fluffy dogs for long walks in the hills. Galipo likes when everybody is together. Someone told us that bichons frises were once used as sheep dogs. Maybe that's why he's doing that. Galipo is a sweetheart but he is VERY VERY VERY VERY STUBBORN!!! He has an amazing personality. He's very spoiled too...but maybe that's why we all LOVE him!!

I wonder if all bichons frises are like him.

Thanks for reading my message! E-mail me and tell me how you liked it!

BYE...

Topic: Invisible Fences

We are the proud owners (parents) of a 4 month old female Bichon, TRIXIE. She is a joy. We are looking into getting an invisible fence to allow her plenty of exercise (when we can't be with her) and to protect her from wandering off. Does anyone have experience with using an electronic fence with the Bichons? Any recommendations for a brand or company? THANKS!!

Our son is away at school, and Matty knows when he is on his way home, He knows my son is home before we do.He is very smart. Matty's coloring is alittle different than other Bichons. He is white with some tan mixed in I quess thats unusual. He is the happiest dog I ever had..

Topic: A Marvekous Site

The information is clear, well written and very useful. I enjoyed reading and learning so much from an expert. One suggestion I think would be useful would be the area of feeding and treats. In my case I have been using IAM's adult chunks and as a treat the IAM's Lambs Meal & Rice. Betsy is beginning to have more tear stains and I am planning to substitute boiled chicken for the IAM's treats. If you have a chance please advise.

Topic: Tartar Buildup

My Bichon Fluffy is 2 years & 4 months old and has a lot of tartar buildup. I give him the recommended things to chew on to control it but doesn't seem to do anything. I took him to the vet to get his teeth cleaned 2 years ago. I heard horror stories about them being put under anesthesia to get their teeth cleaned. Also, I try to brush them, but it is an impossible task! Doe anyone else have this problem with their Bichon!

Topic: Great Dogs

We were given a Bichon by,our neighbor, when she was 12 weeks old. She was kept in a Sheltie welping cage for 12-14hrs a day. When they first got her they were told that she was a Poodle mix. But the discriptions that I have read here tell me that I have her in the wrong hair cut. Muffet is 8 years old, white cotton candy hair, pink skined with brown freckles. Her tail plumes over her back and is like a rooster tail. She loves to go for rides, she loves kids and is in heaven when she has a lot of kids around her. She loves to be held, like a baby. I wish that we didn't have her fixed. But there is nothing that can be done about that now. Deb

Topic: A GREAT DOG

Bichons are great!!! They are sweet and loveable. I got my bichon as a suprise! GREAT SUPRISE!!! It was the best thing I ever had gotten. I have one question. That is, what is the mixture of the bichon? OR is it a pure breed? THANK YOU!!!

Topic: RE:Brewtis/Tyler (Ty)

We did it! After my baby brewtis died of an ear incection a few weeks ago, I was in much pain. Didnt think I could get a new one so soon..but after my husband took me to see a new litter..I fell in love again! I will always love and remember my brewtis..He will be in my heart forever.. We thought we were going to name him Brewtis Jr, but after seeing him and his personality, we decided to give him a name of his own..Tyler or Ty as we call him. Hes a bundle of joy, at 6 weeks old, under foot..and its like having a new baby around the house..constantly watch- ing him. We are using Crate Training for potty breaking. So far..he has a mind of his own. Typical male huh? lol Now, does anybody use a pet food that does not promote staining of the face? I came across a site that said diet can controll face staining..If so, would love to hear from you...Once again, this is a fantastic site, and I spend much time here. Love it! ( :

Topic: Toby, the "Tobinator"

It's great to read messages from other bichon owners! My Toby is as lovable, stubborn, intelligent, devoted, and full of personality as the others I've read about at this site. We truly love each other -- kind of a cross-species thing. He sleeps in bed with my husband and me, and wants nothing more than to be with me wherever I go. What a great dog -- he's my baby!

BAYLEE IS 3 MONTHS OLD AND WE BOUGHT HIM AT THE PET STORE ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO. ONE OF THE REASONS WE LIKE BAYLEE IS BECAUSE HE HAS SUCH A VIBRANT PERSONALITY. THIS IS OUR FIRST BICHON AND I CAN DEFINATELY SAY THAT HE IS A GOOD FAMILY DOG.

Topic: In Search of . . . Dog

We are researching our first family dog and have heard that bichons are good for not shedding. Does anyone know of a reputable breeder near Rochester, NY? What things do you have to watch for in this breed (e.g. underbite, hernias, etc.)?

Topic: Pup Availability

Looking for a reputable breeder in the Northern California area who either has, or will be having, a litter of Bichons. Am interested in a female, pet quality. Just lost the light of my life, my standard brown female poodle, 13 years of age. Need to find a bundle to love, but need a small dog now. Have had teacup, toy, miniature and standard poodles and know I would appreciate and love a little Bichon.

Topic: My Bichon

I have a female bichon named Dolly. She is very lovable. She barks at other dogs, at doorbells, and runs after ducks. She had 7 puppies in October and we sold 1 and gave away 5. We kept a girl, who we named Abby, but we gave her away a few days ago. I really miss her. Any ideas on how I can get over my sadness?

Topic: Beamer

Our Bichon is named Beamer. He came into our family four years ago when he was about two years old. We heard that bichons were 'non-allergenic' and I definitely don't get 'allergic' symptoms around him as I do with other dogs. He has longer legs than most bichons, but has a lovely white coat that developed tan spots several years ago. They have since disappeared. He loves to take walks, ride in the car, bark at anything moving outside of our home, eat treats, have his tummy rubbed, and be a 'lap' dog.
