Enjoy reading all your messages.I am also typing this with one hand. My other arm has our new little Bishon sound asleep. She has had a wonderfull day exploring. She has fit into our house the minute she arrived. We got her three days ago and I'm hoping I am not jumping the gun, but is already housebroken. She gets along with our older dog Daisy extremly well. Looking forward to many happy times. Would appriecate any information on crate training.

Topic: I love my "BUDDY" dog

My bichon is nine years old. His name is Buddy. He has been diagnosed with a rare type of disease of the adrenal gland. I can't remember exactly what the vet called it but it is quite serious. At the present he is taking a drug called Florinef and so far he seem to be doing quite well. I know this is not a cure , I feel that we might just be on borrowed time and I am really worried about him. If anbody else has experienced the same problem with their bichon, I would sure love to hear from you.

Topic: Obidience Training

Hi! I have a 5 months old Bichon, his name is Snowy. I have been taking him to an obidience training class The trainer said that Bichon is a very intellegent dog but unfortunately they are a little bit "stuborn". I train him every day and he still does not want to do what I command him to do; it is making me a bit annoyed. Anybody has any quick fix solution?

Topic: SASHA NOEL

I have a 15 month old Bichon named Sasha Noel (born Xmas Day, 1995). She's a delight. Loves to eat paper, steal tissues from people's pockets, etc. But she does it all with a smile on her face!! She is "almost" house trained. I have to watch her at all times. Doesn't like to go out in the rain, but loves to run with her nose in the snow. I've gotten so much information from this Guestbook. I really appreciate all of the input. I checked with my Vet regarding Chris' suggestion from Dec. 20th about the use of Rolaids for the red stains under some Bichon's eyes. He said to try it. I'll let you know how it works. Love this site. I've bookmarked it for future "surfing." Thanks again for all of the info on my favorite subject.

My Bichon, Peppy LePhew, was 2 years old in October,I guess you could refer to him as a rescue dog, as the original owners were going to put him to sleep because of a bad rash/skin disorder. My husband and I adopted him and after many months and vet's visits, he has a beautiful coat. He is happy and playful and a wonderful pet. We have two problems though and wonder if any readers can get us advice. Since we've had him, he has a terrible choking cough that lasts 60 seconds or longer. It is as if his windpipe constricts. This happens particularly after he has been lying down for a period of time. We have been to numerous vets and have been given antibiotics and alergy pills. He does not seem to be better but the drugs make him lethargic. We also have a problem with him wetting in the house. He is housebroken but even though he has been out within a short time, his instincts take over and he marks his territory. He knows he has done wrong and when we discover the mess, he makes a beeline for his pen (which is what we punish him with when he's bad). Since he was mistreated by previous owners, I hesitate to harshly punish him. He has not been neutered and others tell me this will alleviate this problem. I would appreciate any advice or help. The website was great. I really enjoyed the pictures. The bichons are wonderful, beautiful little babies.

Topic: No sneezing...just love

I love this site! I am won over by our Bichon, Otto who is sleeping in the sun at my feet right now...shhhhh. I have been raised on large dogs, Retrivers, labs etc. When I developed horrible allergies I read about the breed. Then I contacted a local pet store to see if I could hold one to see if I had an allegic reaction. Well, I could not leave without him. (Please do not buy from a pet store. I did not know the impact pet stores have on dogs unitl afterwards). He has brought us more joy than we could have ever imagined!! He sleeps in bed with his head on a pillow, belly up . He runs around the condo in an invisable race, barking with glee. He tosses toys with his nose and pounces on us if he is not reciving "proper" attention. But most notably, Otto is a reat outdoor dog. We hike in the Adirondacks and Otto will beat the Labs, retrievers and huskies up the mountain. Great things do come in small packages! Do you guys have any Bichons that like to swim?

I have two Bichons that are the light of my life ! This is the first time I have left a message on the internet. Buttons weighs 8# and Cody weighs 18#. Please E-Mail me if you can relate what it is like to center your weekends around your Bichons !

Topic: Thinking about a Bichon

I was strolling through the classifieds in our paper today and wondered what the heck a "Bichon Frise" was. I got on the Internet and found the cutest puppy. Do they make good pets? I'm concerned about the "house breaking" thing. How about an older dog? Any suggestions? I need basically an indoor dog that loves to get out and walk. Maybe this is what I've been looking for???? Thanks for any help.

Topic: New puppy

We had two Bichons about 3 weeks apart in age for nine years. WE had to put the female to sleep last Dec. The male has been depressed ever since. Has anyone had an older dog and gotten a puppy or younger dog? How does the older one react? Would love to hear from Bichon owners.

Topic: My Bichon Romeo

My puppy, Romeo, is almost 3 mos. old. He is so funny & cute. He got his name because he was so lovable. He is wonderful with kids too. He is probably pretty spoiled!

We have already taught him to sit, up/dance, and speak. Can you believe that - and that is without much effort. He doesn't even mind being groomed and if the truth be know I think he enjoys it. Although, the house breaking is *challenging*. I work and could use a pointer or two. Anyone know of any little tricks?

Topic: A companion for OJ

Our first bichon arrived the very day the real OJ was acquitted, so that's what we named our bichon. OJ has AKC papers, loves Cheetos, licorice, and ice cream. He's about 16 months old now and we are (seriously) considering finding another bichon...(of course, we will name the next one "Nicole"). We have found our OJ to be extremely timid around other dogs, even other bichons and the last thing we want is to have him spend the rest of his life under the sofa just because we got another bichon. Any ideas? We have dog-sat bichons of our friends and OJ hides the entire time. What do we do? Is there anything we can do? Thanks

Topic: Truly-My Best Friends!!

Almost 10 years ago, I purchased two litter mates, females, Missy & Muffy. I had been ill and literally needed a reason to get up in the mornings. With dogs one does..they are so indignant if you don't do what they want, when they want! They have literally saved my life. These "girls" are playful, love to burrow their noses in the snow, and throw it up in the air, then running like crazy and doing it again. They are still very muscular, with healthy coats, I keep them groomed (they love it) and keep bows on their ears..when one falls off they will bring it back to put back on! Their favorite "in the house thing" is swimming in the big bathtub. When they were littler they swam in the farm pond, and once one of them jumped into a pool. At present, we have problems with Missy grooming Muffy to excess, and keeps an infected air pore re-infected...and of course, no hair there! We have tried orange-bitters, jalapeno paste, everything, but Missy doesn't stop. Does anyone out there have any ideas how to stop this short of separating them? They have only been apart once in their lives, and I know they would put up a terrific fuss if one was caged...they love to make "puppy piles"--that's when they get so wound up together you don't tell which is which! I just found this site.....hope I can get back to it!
