When my wife was told she was terminally ill she held me to my earlier promise to get her a "rea lap dog". We looked into Bichons and got "Bubbles" at the age of eight weeks from Mt. Airy Kennels in Stevens, PA. She and my wife bonded immediately and Bubbles was a real companion in my wife's final days. Bubbles was exactly two years old the day my wife died. Now, 5 3/4 years later she is my closest friend. I live in a mobile home park in southern Texas where doge are no longer allowed. She is the last dog in our park and is grandfathered. Last fall she had a severe allergy and lost all the hair on her ears. Now it is slowly growing back and someday she may look like the dogs in this web site. I have put your site in My Favorite Places, and sent off the URL to most of my e-mail addressees. Bubbles is my closest friend, now that I live alone in my mobile home. She sleeps with me and follows me where ever I go. She has all the attributes that you describe in your web site. She is a friend to everyone but also lets me know way ahesd of time if there is someone coming.

Topic: MAX THE KING

YES, WE HAVE A 2 YR. OLD BICHON FRISE WHO THINKS HE IS THE KING OF THE CASTLE OR SHOULD I SAY HOME. HE PARTAKES IN ALL THE LOVABLE ANTICS I HEAR ABOUT FROM OTHER OWNERS. WE ADORE THIS BREED SO MUCH THAT WE ARE CONSIDERING GETTING A BROTHER FOR MAX. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF RIVALRY OCCURRING WITH TWO MALES AND WHETHER 2 YRS. OF AGE IS TOO OLD TO CONSIDER THIS INTEGRATION.AS WELL WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCE A FORM OF TALKING BACK FROM THEIR BICHONS IF THE BICHON CANNOT GET THEIR WAY, OURS DOES NOT BARK BUT WILL CONTINOUSLY, QUIETLY GROWL. THEY SURE DO HAVE A PERSONALITY OF THEIR OWN AND MANY TIMES WE FORGET WE ARE DEALING WITH A DOG!

Topic: I love my Bichon baby.

Hi all, If you are considering purchasing a Bichon -- do not hesitate to do so. My Fluffy is 7-years old and quite the princess. She is very loving, intelligent, a good watch dog, playful, and loves all people, (adults and children). She is the perfect pet!! Also, since I have allergies, the fact that she doesn't shed is wonderful. She is one of my favorite "people". Joann

Topic: Oliver C. to the resue

My wife convinced me to adopt Oliver that was rescued from the pound in Kent, WA only days before his demise. While he is not a purebreed Bichon (there's a little terrier thrown in)we pretend that he is all Bichon, and of course, he does too! I have always been a cat lover without ever having a dog. Oliver has changed my thinking, and rescued me from being biased to canines. Saying "bye bye" causes frantic activity on Oliver's part. He can go for a car ride anytime, anyplace. He is also very insistant in driving most of the time. Needless to say, we get a lot of looks with his "big hair" poking above the steering wheel. After having him for almost two years now, he and the 2 cats are ajusting to each other. While the three are not bosum buddies yet, we all seem to forget they are enemies when it comes to food. The three have no problems sharing. And when there is nose sniffing going on, Oliver is terrified - except for the neighbor cat who visits the bird feeders each morning. The daily chase to the back of the fence is the staple just before the morning pee. I could go on and on about Oliver and Bichon's in general. What a great dog for all types of people and living situations (however, our's is very sensitive to doorbells on TV and fire trucks - they create such a lovely "cayote" howl. Oliver also loves to sing). One last thing. For the person who turned Oliver into the King County Humane Society in Kent, WA - He is alive and well and has moved down to the "country" in Oregon and after a few trips to the vet, is doing great and enjoying his new extended family.

Being Muffin and Buscuit's mommy for the last 3 years has changed my life for the positive. My human children are all grown up and moved out and M & B give us unconditional love all day and night. Every day is a new adventure and I only wish that everyone could have a Bichon. We were in Italy recently and stopped every owner of a Bichon that we saw. It's a popular breed there, no wonder why. I wish we could have a male and female and breed them so we could have puppies all the time. That must be a world of fun!

Topic: Bichon E-mail pal!

Hi! I know that this isn't really a pen-pal site but I thought it would be the right place to find an E-mail pen-pal. I would like someone between 10 and 13 years old to E-mail me, kind of like a pen-pal only over the internet! I enjoy playing wth my Bichon, Cassy, horse-riding and E-mailing people for no real reason! Here is my address: louise.royle@armico.co.uk Write soon!

You are a very sweet person to have rescued your Bichon and even sweeter to let the person who had to give it up know it is well. You made me cry.

Topic: Fritz, Francis & Bitty

We have 3 Bichons. Fritz, our first, is almost 4 years old. We got Francis, his "wife" just 4 months after Fritz. About 1 year later, they had 5 puppies. It was so difficult for me to give them up, I decided to search out the best possible homes and GIVE them away, rather than sell them to strangers! We kept the one of the females, "Bitty Good Girl", and enjoy the three of them more than words can describe. I think it's like living with a bunch of clowns. They seem to laugh - really! I've never seen such a display of a sense of humor in dogs before these. The best part of it all is that they seem to love eachother as much as they love us. They're very close. We just have to be very careful about using the word "Pizza" in front of them. If they hear it, they run to the door and whine and carry on until the "Pizza Dude" delivers the goods. And, of course, we sneak them a few bites occassionally. You have a great site. I've enjoyed reading the comments from other people who are owned by Bichons.

I love reading all the great stories and was happy to find this website. I can't wait to have one for my own. It seems that it will be nonstop entertainment. When I talked a Bichon breeder she said that they are collectable and that one is never enough!

Topic: Bichon on a boat.

Just the three of us, myself, my wife and Lady Katrina TLC our 4 year old Bichon will be moving on board a boat. When Trina was a pup she started to learn to use the astroturf mat we kept on board for he but when we brought her home she got confused, so we stopped with the lesson. Bichon's are so subtle with their messages it is often misinterpreted as inability to learn. Even now she only looks at the door and back at me to tell me she needs to go out. On the boat she looks at the dingy and back at me when it is time to go ashore. I concerned about the day when there is no shore. I don't want her to suffer. Does anyone have experience retraining a Bichon?

Topic: Brewtis

Just last week my 4 yr old bichon Brewtis passed away. I did not think I could get another one so soon. The pain was too great. But after seeing this site, I decided to go ahead and purchase another. Of course we will name him Brewtis, just like my brewtis that passed away. Such a big name for a little dog huh? hahah but it fit him to a tee.

Does anybody else have problems with seizures in their bichons? Brewtis sufferd with them, but we talked and petted him through them...Please let me know, I would appreciate it greatly...Loved the site! Will be back!
